On 16th April, four Jews, including Dov Gruner, were executed in Acre jail. The 3rd Parachute Brigade and 1st Irish Guards curfewed Hadar Hak Carmel and Bat Gallim. Alan Mead was involved in this event and they set up a Company HQ in the town where he operated a 38-set radio to communicate with B Company platoons. Owing to the city buildings it was only possible to keep in touch with two of them, and he had to use a runner, Sammy Woodward, to contact the others.
